Welcome once more to a new season. Although last year we had fewer teams, the standard of play in all divisions improved. Congratulations to all. This year again we’ve sadly lost teams but two extra sides brings the number to 31. Although only with us for one season special mention should be made of Banstead Neville Bowling Club, whose secretary died right at the start of the season, but who still fulfilled all their commitments to the League. It has been decided that this year’s structure will be a first division of seven teams with eight in all other divisions with teams meeting three times. The three match schedule was used for the first time last season and by all accounts proved to be a success giving players more games. We have lost four Committee members, Martin Rogers who over the years has done so much work for the League in various capacities, being first coopted in 1996; Paul Tansley, who served on the committee for fourteen years and was Division One Match Secretary and a webmaster, but has now moved to Wales; Alec Webster who has done an excellent job as Treasurer following the sudden death of Roger Hill, and Joe Painter who has been Division Two Match Secretary and gave us the excellent new look handbook for last season. However we would thank and welcome Frank Ho and Michael Loveder onto the Committee, whilst Bruce Whattam and Philip Intullura have taken on additional new responsibilities. Without them the League could have folded. We do need more young blood to join us. Again last season the closed championships were a success thanks to Alan Lewell and his team. We have arranged the closed championships for Sunday 28^th February 2010 at West Sutton Youth Centre. Please support your closed championships. An entry form is included in this handbook. Please make sure your entry is sent in good time to give Alan good time to prepare. Last year more entries were received after the closing date than before. Again we were disappointed by the number of winners and runners up who failed to turn up at the AGM to be presented with their trophies. Please take note. Congratulations to last year’s championship trophy and league winners and I wish everyone an enjoyable season
