The Sutton & District Table Tennis League junior (under 16 and under 18) championships were held at Rosehill Table Tennis Club and were well supported to provide a packed evening of matches. Both competitions were held in four groups with the group winners progressing to the semi finals.  All the group winners were members of the Wallington Crusaders Table Tennis Club.

In the under 16s semis Mickel Miller beat Gagan Dhanjal 11-1, 11-6, 11-9 whilst the other semi final was more of a tense dramatic match which was finally won by Oscar Williamson beating Richard Pelc 11-13, 11-4, 11-6, 3-11, 12-10. Oscar then put up another battling performance in the final before losing to the strong favourite Surrey No 7 junior Mickel Miller 2-11, 14-12, 4-11, 7-11.

Mickel Miller and Oscar Williamson were to meet again this time in the semi final of the under 18 event but this time Mickel Miller won in straight games 11-5, 11-6,11-6. In the other semi final Michael Ho, the Surrey No 1 (and England top 20 junior player) had a comfortable win 11-1, 11-1, 12-10 against Tom Beales.

The evening culminated in a superb display of table tennis. The match of the night was undoubtedly the under 18 final in which Michael Ho overcame the challenge from Mickel Miller 8-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-7 to retain his junior crown.

Sutton League Crusaders we were 'up against it' in the Veterans National League Div 2 as their new No 1 player injured his back on Thursday and was unable to play.  However they fared quite well in the circumstances.

Crusaders beat:

Bristol Cival Service 6-0

Kingfisher Reading 4-2

Redlands Bats II (Notingham) 4-2

Crusaders Lost:

lost 1-5 to Yaxley Royal British Legion

lost 1-5 to Pavilion II (Brighton)

Yaxley and Pavilion were both unbeaten having drawn 3-3 with each other.  Crusaders finished the weekend in 3rd place.

Crusaders play them all again at Medway Park (Gillingham) on 28/29 January 2012.

In the 2011 Surrey Interleague "Percy Johnson" Competition the Sutton & District TT League was represented by Wallington Crusaders' Michael Ho and Lewis Bray.

Eight 2-man teams were entered, the other 7 comprising two teams from Guildford, three from Wandsworth, one from Redhill & Reigate and one from Thames Valley.

Sutton got off to a cracking start with a stunning 5-0 victory over Guildford 'A' who had fielded Chris Bush and Andreas Pusch. However the convincing looking result concealed a marathon between Michael Ho and Chris Bush. Chris was two games and 6-0 up in the 3rd before Michael staged an amazing comeback to win in 5.

This match was followed by a demolition of Redhill & Reigate for a healthy lead in their group of four. Michael & Lewis' last group match was against Wandsworth 'B' who fielded Musa Farquharson and Antoney Patten, but another great victory followed - although it has to be said the doubles could not have been closer!

This set up a final match between the two group winners - Sutton and Wandsworth A. Wandsworth's Chris Lewis and Aaron Smith had destroyed all before them. On a very hot and humid Sunday afternoon Wandsworth A were victorious leaving our Sutton boys in a very respectable 2nd place. Their efforts earned the league a £60 credit against the Surrey affiliation fees for the forthcoming season.

Final placings:

1. Wandsworth A  2. Sutton  3. Wandsworth B  4. Wandsworth C
5. Guildford A  6. Guildford B  7. Redhill & Reigate  8. Thames Valley

Well played lads!
